چکیده

In nature Sclerotium Rolfsii attacks the hosts usually at their foot. In a case was observed by the author a Hibiscus plant attacked at about a meter above the ground. By what means the pathogene reached at that height is still unknown. It may be possible that the infection has been caused by basidiospores transported by flow of air. It is therefore interesting to know the relation of germination of basidiospores. GERMINATION OF BASIDIOSPORES Germination of basidiospores has been described briefly (1936). At first they swell markedly and a germ-tube is protruded, then usually another germ-tube develops out after a while. In a few cases the third germ-tube develops. On onion agar, the germ-tubes grow a short distance on the surface of agar medium, but soon grow into the substratum, and branch complicatedly. SUBSTANCES IN RELATION TO GERMINATION

Studies on the basidial Formation by Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc XII. A Discussion on the basidial Stage of Sclerotium Rolfsii Sacc. Isolates and its Identity

In the earlier papers (Series I to XI, 1965) the authors had already reported the success obtained in getting basidial stage of Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. isolates from potato, Colocasia and groundnut (Arachis hypogea L.) and media as well as conditions under which these stages could be obtained. It is proposed to review these in this paper and discuss in detail the basidial stage of S. rolfsii a...

Isolation and fusion of protoplasts from the phytopathogenic fungus sclerotium rolfsii(sacc.)

Sclerotium rolfsii (Sacc.) is a serious plant pathogenic fungus and lacks perfect (basidial) stage in production. Protoplast fusion technology was employed to reconstruct fusants from this fungus. Two strains designated as A and R were used. Maximum protoplast yields of 3.8x10(5)/g mycelia and 2.8x10(5)/g mycelia were formed in strains A and R respectively. Osmotic stabilizer sucrose 1M gave ma...

Induction of Sexual Stage and Colony Morphology of Some Isolates of Sclerotium rolfsii Causing Spotted Leaf Rot in Plants

Twenty-two isolates of Sclerotium rolfsii causing spotted leaf rot from Varanasi, India were grown on 6% Cyperus rotundus rhizome meal agar (CRMA) medium for the induction of athelial stage (Athelia rolfsii). Only one isolate obtained from Sphaeranthus indicus formed basidial stage on CRMA medium while the other 21 isolates did not. Basidial stage was also produced in S. indicus isolate at diff...

Synthesis and characterization of some acyl thiourea derivatives of chitosan and their biocidal activities.

Three acyl derivatives of chitosan (CS) with different side chains were synthesized and their structures were characterized. Their swelling behavior was investigated. The antifungal behavior of these chitosan derivatives was investigated in vitro on the mycelial growth, sporulation and germination of conidia or sclerotia of the sugar-beet pathogens, Rhizoctonia solani K"uhn (AG2-2) and Scleroti...

Potential of Microbispora sp. V2 as biocontrol agent against Sclerotium rolfsii, the causative agent of southern blight of Zea mays L (Baby corn)--in vitro studies.

The study was undertaken with the aim of exploring novel and beneficial agro activities of rare actinomycetes like Microbispora sp. V2. The antagonistic activity of Microbispora sp. V2 was evaluated as a biocontrol agents against Sclerotium rolfsii, a soil-borne fungal plant pathogen. The methodology performed for evaluation of biocontrol agent was in vitro evaluation assay which comprised of t...
